On November 15, 2013 the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation hosted a reception for Prince of Asutrias, Prince Felipe during his recent visit to the United States. The Prince had visited El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park in 1995, and during that visit Los Soldados made him an honorary Comandante. Following introductory remarks by Dr. Jarrell Jackman, the Prince reunited with Los Soldados with a warm welcome by Jim Martinez.  The Prince was then introduced to the many Presidio descendants in attendance.  Michael Hardwick and Mayor Helene Schneider made a special presentation about the Order of Charles the 3rd.  SBTHP then unveiled a plaque made by descendant Jeannie Davis dedicating a new donor wall at El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park in the Prince’s name. Following a presentation of gifts by Dr. Giorgio Perissinotto, the Prince made heartfelt remarks about his return to Santa Barbara and the ongoing importance of Spain’s relationship with the United States.  You can read more about the reception here.
