Presidio Research Center

Welcome to the

Santa Barbara Presidio Research Center

The Presidio Research Center supports the archaeological, research, education, and curatorial programs of SBTHP and El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park. Our collections focus on multi-format materials related to:

  • the Presidio's political, social, economic, cultural, intellectual, and ecological history, with emphasis on the Spanish and Mexican eras of occupation

  • the Presidio Neighborhood, peoples and communities who have lived there through time

  • the historic preservation movement in Santa Barbara County, including the role of the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation in that movement

Our collections can support research on a number of topics including architecture, genealogy, social history, and more. The Presidio Research Center is open to the public by appointment. Browse our collections and find out how to visit below >>
