Founded in 1963 by Dr. Pearl Chase and other concerned community leaders, the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation (SBTHP) works to protect, preserve, restore, reconstruct, and interpret historic sites within Santa Barbara County. SBTHP is the primary force in the reconstruction and preservation of El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park—Santa Barbara's 18th century birthplace—and the Casa de la Guerra—an historic house museum featuring original furnishings and temporary exhibitions. SBTHP also operates the Santa Inés Mission Mills in Solvang, California—two 1820s fulling and grist mills which are part of a National Historic Landmark District and the site of a future California State Park.
